The Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science has accumulated extensive research experience on the study of bee diversity and pollination, as well as on the study of the effects of climate change on agricultural systems.
Well equipped laboratories for studies on bees including constant-temperature cabinets, binocular and compound microscopes, rearing facilities, and computer facilities for the analysis of the effects of climate change on agricultural systems.

The major activity of the Faculty is scientific research, primarily in the field of Agriculture and Biotechnology (plants, animals and farming technologies)
FAZOS also has 5 central laboratories capable for analysis of organic and inorganic matter from field to table, among which one is dedicated for food quality control. Also, FAZOS possesses its own Experimental farm with 100 ha of arable crop land, together with 1 ha of orchard and greenhouse for control plant growth

The new Agrofood Lab (headed by Professor Gianni Gilioli) is a multidisciplinary team, aimed at promoting: Human health and wealth; Environmental health and sustainability; Sustainable growth and socio-economical valorisation. An important research line concerns honey bee health and sustainable apiculture. The University of Brescia is partner of the ApisRAM Project aimed at assessing the risk of pesticides on bees under a context of multiple stressors within the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) MUST-B framework.
An important network of interdisciplinary research infrastructures and several platforms of the Agrofood Lab developing models supporting i) the assessment of honey bee health, ii) the analysis of risks linked to pests and invasive species, and iii) the evaluation of ecosystem services and functional biodiversity.

ACME21 SRL is a startup based in Italy specializing in IoT devices called BeeSecure that allow beekeepers to not only track the location of their hives, but also to collect different types of data to check on the wellbeing of the swarm and to help beekeepers understand the bees better. These devices collect humidity and temperature data as well as record sounds that the bees produce. This device can also be updated remotely.

Partner      9.         LARI          Lebanese Agriculture Research Institute- Lebanon
The Institute has 120 departments one of which is the Department of  bees and Environmental microbiology. Research is conducted on honey bee breeding; disease management, pollen collection, honey quality, antagonistic activity investigation of beneficial microbiota within beehives and bees gut, bee’s nutrition. Extension services for farmers on: management of soil fertility, water consumptive use, plant pest and diseases control, crop rotation, animal diseases treatment and prevention

One of its main objectives is to teach and help the future agricultural engineers to control pests by reducing  chemical impacts and misuse and preserving the Lebanese natural biodiversity of bees and pollinators. Among its main courses offered in the frame of the Master degree programs are Honeybees physiology and ecology, beekeeping etc.

Agricultural Institute of Slovenia (AIS)  is active in various fields of agriculture, both on plant production side as well as on animal production. Group of Apiculture is embedded within the Department of animal production. The Group for Apiculture is undertaking basic and applied research with focus on environment carrying capacity, breeding & selection, physiology and behaviour, honey fraud, modelling and supports the execution of breeding program for Apis mellifera carnica
Agricultural Institute of Slovenia  has 16ha of orchards and berry plantations, 160+ colonies with supporting infrastructure like hive scales and on-line data processing, and GIS capabilities to evaluate the natural and agricultural resources

The numerous activities taking place at NIB are related to the environment, agriculture, food and, more recently and increasingly so, to human health. Research are focused on diversity, ecology, monitoring and protection of pollinators (bumblebees, solitary bees), management of pollinators in agriculture, effects of pesticides on pollinators, green infrastructure and pollinators in cities, agriculture and biodiversity and entomovectoring.

UMR-EGCE researches aim to understand the impact of global changes on insect’s diversity, abundance and ecology in the context of food security and public health. UMR-EGCE has long experience in bee research, especially on honeybees, strong skills in modelling, computational science and ICT applications to insects. Other experience on molecular analysis on bees; evaluation of disease resistance characters; Citizen science; Pollination experiments; coordination of National beekeeping network; honey bee risk assessment
UMR-EGCE is well equipped with sequencing and genotyping laboratories. Moreover, the lab manages several apiaries and experts in taxonomy. The lab carries out pollination experiments in collaboration with local farmers
